FAQS

PRODUCTS

If a product is sold out, will it be restocked?

Each Slow and Sow piece is one of a kind, created using natural dyes. This process means no two pieces are the same. If there is an item you loved that was sold, you can email us to see if we have anything similar coming in our next batch. If not we can consider making a similar colour way for upcoming batches, but it can never be exact to any piece we have previously made.

Do you make custom products?

Currently, we do not offer custom products, due to the nature of natural dyes it is difficult to create an exact colour or imagining a customer may have, but we are open to discussing the possibilities, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

How do I care for my Slow and Sow?

We send out care labels with each purchase on how to take care of your Slow and Sow. We also have a silk care guide.

All our products are iron friendly, natural dyes sometimes react in contact with heat, and temporarily some dyes may change colour in the ironing process. Don’t worry, once your item cools down it will return to its normal colouring. This is just one of the magical parts of natural dyeing.

We recommend a cool hand wash of any item, and to keep any naturally dyed products out of direct sunlight. Store in shade or a small dust bag to protect the colour, as natural dyes can fade with too much sun exposure.

There are different coloured marks on my product, why is this?

Different marks and textures come from the natural dye process that we use at Slow and Sow. We dye with plants, waste produce and pigments, that create all kinds of colours and marks.

When we dye our scarves, we use a mixture of different dyestuffs together, it can be really magical how some colours merge together and leak or shine through onto the silk or cotton like light leaks through a window. Your scarf could be green but have a small dash of pink in the corner, or larger swirls of blue. This comes from the natural chemical reactions of mixing our dyes.

Be it sweetpeas, madder root or even red onions, once our dyestuffs are in the dye bath we relinquish control over how the colour plays out on the fabric we use. To us this is the beauty of using natural dyes and we hope you agree it creates a magical outcome – every piece is different and has a different story shown in the marks and colours across it.

Once we dye and dry our products we keep them in a dry and sealed bag until they are purchased. Then we carefully iron and package your order for you.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes we do! Our gift cards are digital, and can be purchased in different values. We don’t offer custom amounts, and our amounts reflect each product we offer on the website, plus shipping. GENERAL

Who are Slow and Sow?

Slow and Sow are mother-daughter makers, Lizz and Charlotte. Lizz is the dye master, bringing our colours to life at home in West Sussex. Charlotte works on the content, creative and e-commerce of Slow and Sow, based in London.

What is natural dyeing?

We work seasonally with plants grown in our garden in West Sussex, with locally or ethically sourced plant pigments and food waste. We carry out an honourable harvest with our homegrown plants, only taking a very small amount of flowers or leaves to dye with, so that our plants can continue to grow and flourish and look after the natural world around us.
