Silk care

Sustainability is made up of many things, one being the care of your garments. We hope that every purchase from Slow and Sow is a forever piece, and so we wanted to share a few simple ways to prolong your silk scarve’s life.

𓆸 Silk is a strong fibre but also very delicate. If you can, wash your silk scarves as infrequently as possible.

𓆸 Silk is a naturally moisture-wicking and anti-bacterial fabric, this means as a fabric silk does not absorb sweat in the way other fabrics do. Hanging your silk for a day in a space with free-flowing air can go a long way in making your Slow and Sow feel fresher for the next use.

𓆸 Avoid wearing with sharp items as these may snag your silk. If this happens, don’t fret, there are many ways to darn and patch your silk. We would recommend TOAST’s periodical repair and mending events to learn how to do this too.

𓆸 Hand-wash in cool water, using only natural detergent, bathe for a short while and rinse well with cold water. Try not to wring out the silk, instead gently squeeze out excess water and to dry, lay flat on a towel or hang over a drying rack away from direct sunlight or heat.

𓆸 If you gather any marks or stains on your silk, rub lightly with your fingers or a soft sponge. If the stain persists, seek out a dry cleaner who knows how to deal with silk fibres.
